K-5th Project-Based Learning
At Lighthouse Learning, our K-5th grade project-based learning (PBL) approach incorporates hands-on learning experiences, thematic units, leveled learning, whole-brain thinking, cooperative structures, and positive behavior support to provide a comprehensive and enriching educational experience for our students.

Elementary enrichment will emphasize foundational skills, creative expression, and hands-on learning experiences tailored to their developmental level.

Students dive into the world of entrepreneurship, learning the ropes of creating and managing their own small projects. From crafting unique items to sell at our April Farmer's Market to understanding the essentials of marketing and pricing, our classes equip students with the knowledge to turn their ideas into reality. They'll learn to calculate costs, value their time, and pitch their creations to potential customers.

In our digital media class, students become adept at using tools like Canva and Google to craft compelling marketing materials. This hands-on experience in digital marketing not only enhances their creativity but also teaches them the power of digital platforms in promoting products and ideas.

Our art class is a journey through various mediums and historical art movements. Students will explore the works of masters like Pablo Picasso, engaging in projects that encourage them to create their own cubism pieces, among other artistic endeavors. This exploration is coupled with practical activities, such as clay creations inspired by nature studies, including detailed learning about spiders and other animals.

The gardening class offers students the chance to get their hands dirty while learning about botany and sustainable gardening practices. They'll discover which plants thrive in different seasons and delve into the fascinating world of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, gaining knowledge that extends from the garden to the kitchen.

Our cooking and nutrition class emphasizes the importance of healthy eating and a balanced diet. Students have the opportunity to bake, cook, and taste their creations, learning about nutrition in a fun and engaging way.

During study hall, students can choose to broaden their linguistic horizons by learning a new language or sharpen their tech skills with coding activities. These sessions provide a balance between self-directed learning and guided instruction, catering to diverse interests and learning styles.

Our PE classes are all about movement, sports, and dance, promoting physical health and teamwork. Additionally, our drama class offers a creative outlet for students to practice improv, acting, and storytelling, enhancing their confidence and expressive abilities.

Our enriching field trips, scheduled for February 29, March 28, April 11, and May 2nd, offer real-world learning experiences. Past destinations include therapy ranches, planetariums, corn fields, Blue Springs parks, and art studios, providing diverse adventures that complement our classroom learning.
